Two formats, two strategies
Most group breaks run in one of two formats. Knowing the difference is the first step to not overpaying.
Pick-your-team (PYT)
You buy the rights to a specific team. Every card pulled from that team is yours. The catch: popular teams (Cowboys, Yankees, Warriors) cost far more than small-market clubs, and that premium is priced in before a single pack is opened.
Random
Everyone pays the same price; teams are assigned by a live randomizer after spots sell out. You might land the best team in the product for the same price as the worst — high variance, but a level playing field.

So which should you pick?
- Want a specific player or team? PYT — but check the ask against that spot's share of what the boxes cost first. Popular teams are often marked up well beyond the slice of the break you are actually buying.
- Want the cheapest, highest-variance entry? Random — just know you might draw a "dead" spot.
Either way, the rule is the same: work out what the spot's slice of the boxes costs before you buy. A good format at a bad price is still a bad deal.
